The Most Philosophical Anime Ever Made?
Max finally takes a deeper dive and analyzes the most requested anime series from his audience, Ergo Proxy.
What was once his most difficult-to-watch series ended up being a self-fulfilling experience rich in philosophy that allows the viewer to experience its many layers with little handholding.
Ergo Proxy offers a unique experience and may be the most philosophical anime of all time.

Konami's Forgotten Alchemic Gem from the PS2 Era
Back when developers were rewarded by being more experimental and innovative, a little-known game called Shadow of Destiny was created.
Listen in as Max dissects this game down to its deeper themes and alchemical influences, as well as why we don’t see too many games like this in the current game market.

What's something exciting your business offers? Say it here.
Although this stream has been around for a few years,
we thought we would introduce this to those of you who are new
to “The Last of Us” game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, and now more recently,
the television series, created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO.
“Needless to say, there are spoilers ahead”, ~ Max
SPOILER ALERT!
“This is a game that changed a lot of our perceptions on what video games could be. It certainly did for me when I played it for the first time over six years ago. I wanted to identify what it was about the story of The Last of Us that has stuck with us for so long. Why is The Last of Us Part II anticipated more than games like Doom: Eternal, Death Stranding, or maybe (dare I say it), Cyberpunk 2077 for some people? Let's find out.” ~ Max
Freud's Influence on Video Games (Silent Hill 2, Xenogears, Control, More...)
Freud is somebody that our society takes for granted. Most people do not recognize how much he has influenced our culture. Here, Max discusses the numerous video games that Freud has influenced; many of which happen to be some of the greatest games ever made. While that is not entirely due to Freud, he played a significant role.
"Pyramid Head as Superego/Shadow - This is the problem with psychoanalytic concepts, particularly with Freudian ones: they describe only one part of a greater truth... and even then, what that truth is remains debatable. For myself, I'd say the greater truth is Jungian: that the Freudian id is one part of a person's unconscious. Pyramid Head shares the same multiplicity of purpose that the personal unconscious does. Though he takes the form of the "Id" part of the unconscious, his function isn't simply to be libidinous force of nature. He seems to have a purpose. Is he the superego? I suppose it depends on whichever way you look at it. Like Heather said, and Vincent alluded to in Silent Hill 3, God can be the devil or vice-versa. You would think that the superego would take the form of an angel, like I explained in the video. But what does an angel actually look like? Another character from Silent Hill that Pyramid Head is related to, Valtiel, is described as an angel. He looks decrepit like Pyramid Head too. Is he the shadow? Is he actually trying to help James? Again, it's hard to say for certain. He seems to be helping James towards his goal as much as he is trying to kill him. This is the problem with integrating unconscious contents into consciousness. Sometimes it's the most important thing that needs to be done, and sometimes it will kill you. Trying to be objective about something as subjective as the unconscious mind, or its personifications (like Pyramid Head) is impossible. Given the evidence, I would say that Pyramid Head's aesthetic and behavior is definitely id-like, but will have the side-effect of a superego/shadow... in that it will shock those who witness Pyramid Head's behavior towards the good. That's the best I can do for now." ~ Max
Max found this game tough to take. Nevertheless, he recommends playing through it at least once.
It's an important part of gaming history and has some unique artistic value to it.
“Special thanks to Corbin for recommending this game to me.” ~ Max
10 Life-Changing Games You Can Finish in One Sitting
How often have you wanted to introduce somebody to the world of gaming, but they offer up too many excuses.
Maybe they have bad hand-eye coordination. Maybe they get motion-sick easily. Maybe they don't like the time investment.
In response to that, Max decided to put together a list of the some of the shortest, yet highest-quality games.
Monster is a favourite anime to many and arguably overlooked in terms of storytelling.
Max’s theories and explanations help fans appreciate the anime series, Monster, nearly two decades after its release.

If you were born in the 90’s, chances are you were a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh.
Max grew up reading, watching and playing Yu-Gi-Oh, and he remembers enjoying it.
As it turns out, Yu-Gi-Oh isn’t just for kids anymore. Recently, Max decided to take another look when his girlfriend started playing it. She showed Max cards that were based off real-life myths; myths that he has talked about in relation to other franchises on his channel. These real-life myths were interwoven in the card game in truly brilliant ways. Max had no idea Yu-Gi-Oh was capable of this level of sophistication.

Elden Ring - All References to Norse Mythology
If you have even a cursory knowledge of Norse Mythology, you have noticed its influence on not only Elden Ring, but the other FromSoftware games as well.
With Max’s final (planned) video for Elden Ring, he decided he would go through all the potential references to Norse Mythology, and how those references might help us solve some of the deeper mysteries of this game.
New Silent Hill Game LEAKED - Here's Everything We Know (IMAGES AND DETAILS)
“This looks pretty darned real, guys.” ~ Max Derrat
Chrono Trigger - An Existentialist Masterpiece
This game is perfect... and that perfection maintains itself 27 years after its release.
What's interesting though, is that of all the things that Chrono Trigger is appreciated for, the story tends to be the lesser of the elements.
Max understands why this is: it's because the best parts of the story are only unlocked by a considerable effort.
If you make the choice to find those pieces of story content, you will be handsomely rewarded.
YouTube is the Best and Worst Thing to Ever Happen to Me
If you have any questions or concerns, please share them in the comment section on YouTube.

Alchemy Explains So Much About Elden Ring's Story
The meaning of Marika's name is something relevant to alchemy. Max discusses that, along with other things related to alchemy within Elden Ring.

Elden Ring Mythology - The Secrets of Sorcery
There's a lot of interesting, in-depth stuff going on behind the scenes with the sorcery in this game. The item descriptions and locations of certain enemies help to reveal some of the background politics going on with the Academy of Raya Lucaria and its dissident students. It also reveals why those students were kicked out, and why their expulsion was necessary.
The Best Character in Fallout: New Vegas is One You Never Meet
Max has been playing through Fallout: New Vegas
for the first time.
Based on many recommendations, he tried to gravitate to the areas that have the best storylines and characters. He went to Joshua Graham, Ulysses, Mr. House, but none of them fascinated Max as much as a "father in the cave".
Elden Ring Mythology - The Ancient Dragons and the Crucible
The Ancient Dragons and the Crucible not only might be two of the most important elements to Elden Ring's story... they might be important to other games by FromSoftware as well.
Elden Ring - Everything We Know About Ranni (UPDATED VERSION)
This is an updated version of Max’s previous video on Ranni the Witch.
This takes into consideration the criticism and comments people made on that last video and includes the major theories surrounding Ranni.
The Metaphysics of Berserk - Hinduism, Norse Mythology and OD
This is the final video in the series on the Metaphysics of Berserk.
Max held off on doing this video for a while because he wasn't expecting too much interesting material with the Hindu and Norse references.
Max now admits that he was WRONG about that!

Elden Ring Mythology - Connections to Dark Souls and Bloodborne (Shared Universe?)
Ever since the first Dark Souls came out (following up Demon's Souls), people have been speculating about whether or not the FromSoftware games are a part of the same universe.
Elden Ring seems to confirm these suspicions in multiple ways.
Listen on to find out why.
I'm Dealing With YouTuber Burnout... But It's Okay
"I'M NOT GOING TO STOP MAKING VIDEOS. That said, I am feeling burned out as of late.
It's because the business model I have been working with the last year is no longer
tenable (1 or 2 videos a week).
In this update, I explain how things are going to work starting in the middle of March."
Since 2017, it has been Max’s mission to bring the most profound examples of art to as many people as possible, with a major focus on video games.
One major highlight of this 5-year mission was the release of a video called "The Most Profound Moment in Gaming History".
While most people seemed to agree with Max’s choice for the “Most Profound Moment”, there were some viewers that offered alternatives.
Max decided to take some of those alternatives and see where they rank on a Top 10 list.

PEACE - A Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Retrospective.
Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid, has said that there is a single word... a single theme that can summarize each mainline game in the Metal Gear Solid saga.
With that, Max decided to look at each game in the series exclusively through the lens of their respective theme.
Today, we will be looking at the single word/theme that summarizes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. That word…
The Most Profound Moment in Gaming History... 3 Years Later
It's been three years since Max released the video titled "The Most Profound Moment in Gaming History".
These are his reflections on that video... what it did for him, the channel and the community.
Does he still think it's the most profound moment? Has he since found a game that he thinks has a more profound moment, or is more profound overall?
Berserk - NEW MYSTERIES SOLVED (2022)
Don't you love it when you have "EUREKA" moments? Max had one of those come out of nowhere the other day. He thinks he may have solved the mystery behind several symbols from the manga. Special thanks to Adam, Walter and "ANONYMOUS" for helping me with the latter third of this video.
Eternal Darkness - Story Explanation and Analysis
Max has known about this game for about 15 years; more than half his lifetime.
It was only in the last two months that he decided to finally give this game a shot. He couldn’t believe how good it was.
An Army Veteran Explains PTSD and How to Treat It
Max believes that the most meaningful content he has covered on his channel has always surrounded Mental Health. Unfortunately, given the way the YouTube algorithm works, it doesn't promote that content as much compared to his gaming content. His plan for 2022, is to attempt a comeback with the various topics relating to Mental Health. To begin, Max decided to release a video talking about PTSD. To give this content some credibility, he thought it best to discuss the subject with somebody who is not only a respected army veteran, but also a counsellor.
*Special thanks to Corbin and John for doing this video with Max.
Max loved True Detective... especially the character of Rust Cohle.
He can't remember the last time he was so fascinated by a person's inner suffering than when he watched Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now.
The only thing that he doesn’t really like is how some people hold up Rust as a justification of pessimist philosophy... because the show rejects this philosophy (especially at the end).
Not only that, the Pessimist Philosophy that Rust adopts ignores important details!

Resources Max has Used:
1. 7cups.com A website where you can be paired with random people who will listen to your problems and walk through them with you. As well, you can be paired with trained therapists.
2. jo@samaritans.org This is an e-mail address I have used for years. Trained professionals will respond to your e-mails within 24 hours and offer resources ideal for your circumstances.
3. Coaches The link included below will take you to a video I did recently. In it, a "coach" named John Tucker speaks about the benefits of coaching and how coaches will be matched according to your specific diagnoses and issues. I also speak about how helpful John has been as my personal coach.
4. Distress Centres Sometimes you might need to call a suicide hotline, but at other times you just need somebody to hear you out on the phone; somebody who will refer you to services you could use, or maybe just somebody that will listen. I know most of viewers don't live in Canada, like I do, but if you are looking for a service like this, I recommend visiting this website, getting in contact with them, and they will refer you to a similar service near your location.
5. Helplines An extensive list of helplines and organizations.
Many have messaged Max over the past 18 months, explaining about how the pandemic has been affecting their mental health.
Uncertain about why it took him so long to review this topic he thought, "Better late than never". We are sure you will agree.
Hopefully, by sharing his experiences, along with some of the experiences of others, Max can offer some compassion, understanding and validate the difficulties you have gone through, while reminding you that you are NOT alone.
Max has wanted to come back to The Shining after Doctor Sleep came out. His hesitation to do so was due to the fact he believed he messed something up in his original Shining video from October 2019. The anxiety produced by that mistake demotivated him until recently. Having overcome the anxiety, Max hopes to defend his original Shining video and will use the events of Doctor Sleep to support that defense. *Sounds a little like a lawyer, Max*

The Christian God is viewed by many to be the "summum onum"; the highest good who is without flaw or evil. Jung argues that this conception of God is misguided... even dangerous.
In this video series, Max will present the image of God that Jung views to be more accurate; one that, arguably, Jordan Peterson believes in. Granted... Peterson never said he believes in God. He said he "acts" as if God exists; but that begs the question: What is the nature of this hypothetical God that Peterson imagines would exist if it exists at all? Let's find out.
Full Disclosure: Max did a video on this topic in September of 2018. He decided to take that video down because he felt it didn't do justice to the original text. Here, he hopes to make things right.

Finally!!!! Max has a video on the Legacy of Kain. What magnificent writing these games have. It's an absolute shame that these games have been lost in time. Max hopes that this video helps to keep its brilliance alive, even if only in a small part. Can a coin land on its edge?
Someone recently sent Max an e-mail suggesting that he talk about how people take advantage of autistic people and their naivete; for their lack of understanding when it comes to social interaction.
Max was reminded about an experience that caused him distress as a young teenager, not just because someone took advantage of his good nature and autistic traits,
Max believes that talking about something that has weighed on his mind, will help resolve things and help him move past it.
Struggling with ADHD? There's help and it won't cost you a penny.
Max has ADHD. Like many of you, Max has tried many different interventions and support mechanisms to deal with ADHD (medication, psychologists, changing his diet, exercising). For the most part, none of those things helped to any great degree. This video presents a relatively new coping method; One that has come about only in the last decade or so. It's based around fMRI scans of the brain, and how it lights up depending on what activity you're doing. Max will show you how the ADHD brain functions according to fMRI scans. Not only that, he will tell you how you can use that information to bend your brain to your will. Seriously.
One of Jordan Peterson's most famous claims is that chaos is feminine... or to be more precise... that it is symbolically feminine. When some people hear this, they think Peterson is equating the female gender with negative attributes; that women are chaotic.
In this video, Max explains why Peterson is not being sexist or misogynistic with his claims, and that chaos (as an abstract, metaphysical concept) has a long history of being symbolically feminine.
True love is rare. It's difficult for the average person to find it given the nature of human social interaction... but it's especially difficult for those who are biologically programmed to be socially awkward. This is especially true for people on the autism spectrum. When autistic people do find love (platonic, romantic or otherwise) they will do whatever they can to hold onto it. Unfortunately, this can lead to - sometimes - unpalatable behavior.
Shadow of the Colossus - NEW SECRETS REVEALED 2021
A very early demo version of Shadow of the Colossus was recently uncovered. This demo was given to E3 2005.
Special thanks to Hidden Palace for giving this version of the game to the data-miners! People have been digging into the code to see if they could find anything interesting. Turns out... there's a lot in this demo that we didn't know about before.
From Max's Desk:
"I've always wanted to do some sort of project with my community; something that centered around mental health and autism. With it being "World Autism Awareness Month", I figured now would be the best time to release something in that vein. What you will see in this video are Minecraft creations made by my community. They are done exclusively by those who either have some form of mental illness, autism, or both. I wanted to give these people the opportunity to not only show off their skills, but also tell the world the one thing they wish the world knew about what it's truly like to have mental illness and/or autism."
Silent Hill Mythology - Who Wrote the Messages?
Check out the latest instalment for the

Mythology Analysis series.
Though autism awareness has improved a little in recent years, one thing that has yet to change to a degree worth mentioning is employment rates.
The unemployment rates for those on the spectrum is shocking and can be downright discouraging for Max and others who are currently looking for work.
In this latest installment, Max discusses the employment statistics for people on the autism spectrum, while inviting others to share their situation and experiences.

The FromSoftware games are an interweaving and reinterpretation of all the great religions of the world.
Max believes that if we understand what religions/myths/stories influenced which characters, locations, and stories, we can unlock the hidden secrets of the Dark Souls universe.
Here's Max's first offering.
Top 10 Most Profound Video Games
The primary mission of Max's channel is to promote the academic value of video games (plus promoting mental health).
Ever since 2017, Max has been investigating video games that he believes are so profound that they merit academic consideration.
Of all the games Max has gone through, he believes these are the Top 10.
Little Nightmares II - Story Explanation and Analysis
The first Little Nightmares was such a treasure. Max was excited and filled with anticipation when the second game was announced.
He was particularly happy that Little Nightmares 2 was coming out because one of the most popular videos on his channel was the "explanation" video for the first game.
Check out Max’s on-going argument that NieR: Automata is the most profound game of all time.
Here he will discuss the character of Pascal, the robot. With this character, Yoko Taro presents new existential questions that Max has never heard discussed in science-fiction. They are terrifying questions, but genius, nonetheless.
Listen on to find out what those questions are.
Is it the next Silent Hill?
Like everybody else, the first thought that crossed Max’s mind when The Medium was announced was "Silent Hill."
The shifting between worlds, the music of Akira Yamaoka, and many other things led us to believe that the Medium would be a more than suitable surrogate.
Does the game succeed like many of Bloober Team's past titles have?
